Elizabeth is the planned satellite city built in the 1950s and 1960s in Adelaide's outer north, centred on the Elizabeth City Centre shopping precinct and the Elizabeth train station, with the former Holden plant site nearby. It is a practical, value-conscious area of established homes, Housing Trust stock and a large rental market.
Most Elizabeth homes are the original brick or cream-brick houses from the Trust era, with three carpeted bedrooms, a carpeted lounge and a central hallway. Much of the carpet is hard-wearing nylon or polypropylene laid when homes were renovated or re-let, and some homes still have older wool-blend carpet in the lounge.
