Quick answer

Carpet steam cleaning in Adelaide with Carpet Rescue starts at $45 per bedroom or standard room (up to 14 m²), $65 for a lounge or open-plan living area, $20 per hallway and $45 per flight of stairs, with a $120 minimum booking. The carpet is dry vacuumed, pre-sprayed, rinsed with hot water under pressure and extracted in the same pass, and most rooms are dry within 4 to 8 hours.

What steam cleaning actually is

What everyone calls carpet steam cleaning is hot water extraction. Very little of it is steam: the machine sprays hot water and a rinse solution into the pile under pressure and, in the same stroke, a strong vacuum pulls the water, the loosened soil and the cleaning solution back out into a waste tank. Done properly it reaches soil at the base of the fibres that vacuuming and spray-on products never touch, and it leaves far less residue than a shampoo or bonnet clean.

It is the method most carpet manufacturers specify for periodic deep cleaning, including for warranty purposes, and it is the method we use on almost every job. The exception is a fibre that cannot take the moisture, which is rare in Adelaide homes; we check before we start rather than guess.

How a Carpet Rescue clean runs

Wool, nylon, polypropylene: the fibre decides the chemistry

Adelaide homes have a real mix of carpet. Older homes in the eastern suburbs and foothills often have wool twist or wool loop; newer estates and most rentals have solution-dyed nylon or polypropylene; apartments and offices often have carpet tiles. They all clean well with hot water extraction, but not with the same solution or the same amount of water.

FibreHow we treat itWatch-outs
Wool and wool blendsWool-safe, near-neutral pre-spray, less water, thorough extractionBrowning and shrinkage come from over-wetting and harsh alkaline cleaners, not from the method itself
Nylon and solution-dyed nylonStandard pre-spray and rinse; takes agitation wellOlder non-solution-dyed nylon can fade with strong oxidisers, so stain treatments are tested first
Polypropylene (olefin)Standard clean; very stain resistant but holds oily soilOily traffic lanes need a stronger pre-spray and more dwell time; pile can flatten under heat
Polyester and triextaStandard cleanOil-loving fibres: grease and body oils need a degreasing pre-spray
Carpet tilesLow-moisture extraction so the tile backing and adhesive stay dryEdges can lift if flooded; we work with less water and more passes

If you know what your carpet is, tell us when you book. If you do not, we work it out on the day from the fibre and the way it responds to a small test.

Hallways, stairs and the grey lanes everyone notices

Traffic lanes are the part of a carpet clean people care most about: the grey path from the front door to the kitchen, the dark strip up the middle of the stairs, the doorway into each bedroom. The grey is a mix of ground-in grit and oily soil that bonds the dirt to the fibre, so it needs the pre-spray to dwell and some agitation before the rinse.

Hallways are priced at $20 and stairs at $45 per flight of up to 14 steps because they are slow, hands-and-knees work with a stair tool. Heavily worn lanes can be cleaned but not un-worn: if the fibre tips are frayed or flattened for good, the carpet will be clean but still show the path, and we will tell you that before we start.

Carpet steam cleaning prices in Adelaide

A lot of Adelaide carpet cleaners will not put a number on their website. Ours are published:

Prices are for carpet in normal condition with the floor reasonably clear. Heavy soiling and moving furniture are quoted up front, not added at the end.

What we do not do

We clean carpet. We do not repair, patch or restretch it, and we do not do flood or water-damage restoration (a carpet that is wet from a leak needs a restoration company with drying equipment, quickly). Rugs are best washed off the floor by a rug specialist rather than cleaned in place, and couches need an upholstery clean, not a carpet wand.

Common questions

Carpet Steam Cleaning Adelaide: questions

How much is carpet steam cleaning in Adelaide?

Our published starting prices are $45 per bedroom or standard room, $65 for a living area, $20 for a hallway and $45 per flight of stairs, with a $120 minimum booking. The final price is confirmed on inspection before we start, with no hidden fees.

Is steam cleaning or dry cleaning better for carpet?

For a deep clean, hot water extraction (steam cleaning) removes more soil because it rinses the pile and extracts the dirty water. Low-moisture dry cleaning dries faster and suits light maintenance cleans or carpet that cannot be wet. Most manufacturers specify hot water extraction for periodic deep cleaning.

How long will the carpet take to dry?

Usually 4 to 8 hours. Open windows, ceiling fans or air conditioning on dry mode speed it up; a cold, humid winter day or thick wool carpet slows it down. You can walk on it in clean socks while it finishes.

Do I need to move furniture?

Please clear small items, toys, shoes and anything on the floor. We clean around beds, wardrobes and large units and move light furniture such as dining chairs and side tables. If you want the carpet under heavy pieces cleaned, tell us when you book so it can be quoted and planned.

Should I vacuum before you arrive?

It helps but it is not required. We dry vacuum every carpet before cleaning as part of the job; a quick vacuum from you simply means less hair and grit for us to lift and a slightly faster visit.

Will steam cleaning shrink or damage wool carpet?

Not when it is done with wool-safe chemistry and controlled moisture. Shrinkage and browning come from flooding the carpet or using harsh alkaline cleaners. We check the fibre first and adjust the solution, the water and the drying for wool.
