Quick answer
Carpet stain removal with Carpet Rescue is done as part of a room clean: common spots are treated within the room price (from $45 per room), and set-in or heavy stains are quoted from $30 per stain area. Each stain is identified first, because red wine, coffee, ink, grease, rust and dye each need a different treatment, and we tell you before starting what should lift completely and what may leave a shadow.
The most common way to make a carpet stain permanent is to treat it as if it were something else. An alkaline cleaner sets a protein stain; heat sets sugar and dye; a solvent spreads an oily mark. So the first thing we do is work out what the stain is, how old it is and what has already been put on it, because the chemistry follows from that.
Stains fall into a few groups and each has its own treatment:
| Stain | Treatment approach | Realistic outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Red wine, cordial, berry juice | Tannin treatment, then a controlled oxidising spotter if a shadow remains | Fresh: usually fully removed. Old, dried or previously heat-treated: often lightened, sometimes a shadow |
| Coffee and tea | Tannin treatment and rinse | Usually removed; sugary milk coffee needs a second step |
| Food, sauces, chocolate, vomit | Enzyme or protein spotter, then rinse | Usually removed if not heat-set |
| Grease, oil, make-up, fake tan | Solvent or degreasing spotter worked from the outside in | Fresh grease comes out; fake tan is a dye and often lightens rather than disappears |
| Ink, marker, nail polish | Specialist solvent, dabbed not rubbed | Depends on the ink; ballpoint usually good, permanent marker often leaves a trace |
| Rust, blood | Reducing agent (rust) or cold protein treatment (blood) | Rust usually good; old blood lightens |
| Bleach, hair dye, furniture dye transfer | Not removable: the fibre colour itself has changed | Cleaning cannot fix a colour change; a carpet repairer may be able to patch or re-dye |
Most spills that are dealt with within a few weeks come out completely with the right spotter and a hot water extraction rinse. Stains that have been there for years, been scrubbed with the wrong product, or heat-set by a dryer or steam mop may lighten to a faint shadow rather than disappear. Dye damage, bleach spots and burns are not stains at all; the colour or the fibre has changed, and cleaning cannot restore it. We tell you which category each mark is in before any money changes hands, and we would rather lose a job than promise what the chemistry cannot do.
Everyday spots and marks are treated as part of the room clean ($45 per bedroom or standard room, $65 per living area, $120 minimum booking). Heavy or set-in stains that need specialist spotters and dwell time are quoted from $30 per stain area. Pet urine is a different job, treated with enzymes, and priced separately.

Common questions
Usually, yes, especially if it is recent and nobody has put hot water or a supermarket spray on it. Red wine is a tannin stain treated with a tannin spotter and, if a shadow remains, a controlled oxidiser tested on the fibre first. Old or heat-set wine stains often lighten rather than vanish.
Normal spots are part of the room clean. Set-in or heavy stains that need specialist treatment and dwell time are quoted from $30 per stain area, and we tell you before we start.
No cleaner can. Bleach removes the carpet colour and hair dye adds colour to the fibre; both are colour changes, not soil. A carpet repairer can sometimes patch the area or spot-dye it. We will tell you honestly if a mark is in this category.
Blot with a clean white cloth, use cold water only, and do not rub or use heat. Avoid piling on products. Then tell us what it was when you book so we bring the right spotter.
Some stains "wick back" as the carpet dries if residue remains deep in the pile or backing. We rinse and extract thoroughly to prevent it, and if a treated stain reappears within a few days, contact us and we will look at it.
