Mawson Lakes is a planned suburb in Adelaide's north built from the late 1990s around the UniSA campus, the lakes, the town centre and the Mawson Interchange. It is dense by Adelaide standards, with townhouses, apartments and compact family homes, and a large population of students, young professionals and families who rent rather than own.
Most Mawson Lakes homes are modern builds with hard floors in the open-plan living area and carpet in the bedrooms, upstairs landings and stairs. Two and three-storey townhouses are common, so a typical job includes at least one flight of stairs. The carpet is usually a builder-grade nylon or polypropylene in beige or grey, laid over underlay on a concrete or timber subfloor.
