Scotchgard Carpet Protection Adelaide

Protection is not a force field. It buys you time: spills sit on the fibre long enough to blot, and soil releases more easily at the next clean. Applied after a hot water extraction clean, when the carpet is at its cleanest.

Quick answer

Scotchgard carpet protection with Carpet Rescue is an add-on applied after a steam clean, from $35 per room. A fluorochemical protector is sprayed evenly over the clean, damp pile and groomed in; once dry it makes most liquid spills bead on the surface for long enough to blot, and helps dry soil release during vacuuming and the next professional clean. It wears down in traffic lanes over 12 to 24 months and is reapplied at the next clean.

What carpet protector does, and what it does not

Most new carpet is sold with a factory-applied stain protector. Every clean, every vacuum and every year of foot traffic wears it down, and after a few years most carpets have little left in the lanes. Reapplying a protector such as Scotchgard restores a coating on each fibre that lowers its surface energy, so water-based spills bead up instead of soaking in immediately, and dry soil has less to grip.

It does not make carpet stain-proof. A spill left to sit will still soak in, oily and dye-based stains are only partly resisted, and pet urine goes straight through because of the volume. What it gives you is a window to blot, and a carpet that comes up cleaner and faster at the next professional clean.

When it is worth it

It is less worth it on polypropylene (olefin) carpet, which already resists water-based stains well by nature, and in rooms that get little traffic.

How we apply it

Protector only works on clean carpet, so it is applied straight after the hot water extraction while the pile is clean and slightly damp. It is sprayed evenly with a low-pressure sprayer, then groomed through the pile so every fibre is coated rather than just the tips. The carpet is left to dry as normal (4 to 8 hours) and the protector cures over the following day. Keep foot traffic light until it is fully dry.

We apply Scotchgard per room at $35 a room, on top of the clean. We do not offer protection on its own without a clean, because applying it over soil locks the soil in.

Common questions

Scotchgard Carpet Protection Adelaide: questions

How much does Scotchgard carpet protection cost?

From $35 per room, applied after a hot water extraction clean. It is an add-on to the clean rather than a stand-alone service.

How long does carpet protector last?

Typically 12 to 24 months in normal rooms and less in hallways and stairs where traffic wears it down. Reapplying at each professional clean keeps the coverage even.

Does Scotchgard stop pet urine?

No. Urine arrives in a volume that goes straight through the pile into the backing. Protector may slow a small accident, but pet urine needs an enzyme treatment, not a coating.

Is carpet protector safe for children and pets?

Once dry it is inert and widely used in homes with children and pets. Keep everyone off the carpet until it is dry, as you would after any clean.

Can protector be applied to wool carpet?

Yes, and wool benefits more than most synthetics because it is naturally absorbent. We use a protector suitable for wool and apply it after a wool-safe clean.
