Aldinga Beach is at the far southern end of our service area, below the Onkaparinga River where the suburbs give way to the Fleurieu Peninsula, with the Aldinga Beach Shopping Centre, the drive-on beach and the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park. It has grown from a holiday-shack town into a proper suburb of new estates, while keeping plenty of older beach houses and a holiday-let trade.
Newer Aldinga Beach homes are single-storey estate houses from the last two decades with carpeted bedrooms and tiled or vinyl-plank living areas, usually with solution-dyed nylon or polypropylene carpet that handles sun and sand well. Older homes near the beach and in the original streets have carpet in more rooms and more of it is ageing. Holiday houses and short-stay lets are common, families with young children fill the estates, and dogs are everywhere, including on the beach.
Sand is the constant. Cars and feet come off the beach carrying it, and it ends up in bedroom carpets and hallways where it grinds at the fibre. Sunscreen and wet swimwear leave greasy marks and water stains on bedroom floors in summer. Holiday lets see a season's worth of spills and sandy traffic in a few months. Dogs who swim and dig bring in wet sand and the odd accident. Families with toddlers in the new estates get the usual juice, milk and food marks on light-coloured bedroom carpets.
Everything starts with a long, careful dry vacuum to pull the sand out before the carpet is wet. Greasy sunscreen marks and food spots get a targeted pre-spray before hot water extraction, which also flushes out the salty residue that makes beach carpets feel gritty. For holiday lets we clean between bookings and can add a deodorise so the house smells fresh for the next guests.
