Klemzig is a north-eastern suburb on the River Torrens, between the OG Road shops and the Linear Park, about seven kilometres from the city. The Klemzig O-Bahn interchange makes it a fast commute, and that convenience has driven a steady wave of unit and townhouse development through what was a 1950s and 1960s suburb of single homes on quarter-acre blocks.
Klemzig today is a mix of original brick and stone-fronted homes, often extended or renovated, and a large number of newer townhouses, courtyard homes and unit groups built where the big blocks were subdivided. The older homes usually have carpeted bedrooms and a lounge with carpet that may be decades old. The townhouses have carpeted upstairs bedrooms, a flight of stairs and a small landing, generally in mid-grey nylon or polypropylene. Many of the newer dwellings are rentals close to the interchange, with regular tenant turnover, and a good number of households have a dog that runs along the Linear Park.
Carpeted stairs and landings in the townhouses take the brunt of daily traffic and grey quickly, and small upstairs bedrooms show every drink or make-up mark. Dogs that walk the river path bring back mud and sand that works into the pile near the back door and on the stairs. In the older homes the carpet is simply tired: flattened lanes, a dull sheen in the lounge, furniture dents and the occasional old pet spot that smells on humid days near the river. End-of-lease cleans with a receipt are a constant request from the rental stock.
We pre-vacuum thoroughly, because river sand at the base of a pile turns to mud if it is wet before it is lifted. Stairs and landings are pre-sprayed, agitated and extracted tread by tread with a hand tool. Bedrooms get a pre-spray matched to the fibre and hot water extraction that flushes the soil out and recovers most of the moisture, so rooms are back in use by the evening. Pet spots are treated with an enzyme product that breaks the urine down in the backing. Tenants receive a dated, itemised receipt by email.

The method is the same, hot water extraction after a pre-spray and agitation, but the tool is different: stairs are done tread by tread with a hand wand so we can work into the nosing of each step where grit collects. It is slower work, which is why stairs are priced as their own item on our published list rather than as part of a room.
Yes. Mud and sand from the river path are dry soil once they have dried into the pile, so the job starts with a slow, thorough vacuum before anything is wet, then a pre-spray on the dark patch, agitation and extraction. If the dog has also had accidents there, we treat the area with enzyme first so the smell is removed rather than masked.
