Walkerville is a small, leafy council area just north-east of the city, hugging the River Torrens with Walkerville Terrace as its main street and Stephen Terrace separating it from Gilberton. It is one of Adelaide's older established suburbs, with stone villas and bungalows on quiet tree-lined streets, newer townhouses near the terrace, and residents who tend to look after their homes carefully.
Walkerville homes are often substantial: Victorian and Federation stone villas with high ceilings and wide halls, 1920s bungalows, and some mid-century homes on the slopes towards the river. Carpet here is more likely to be wool, often a good-quality wool twist or loop pile laid as part of a considered renovation, sometimes with carpet runners on polished timber hallways and stairs.
